Likewise, women are half the population and their talent is necessary to meet the challenges and solve scientific and social problems. Also it is necessary to have diversity in all areas and it is important to have creativity, desire to develop altruistic innovations, or preference for working in groups demonstrating many women in the scientific technological areas.
Women are universally under-represented in science and technology. There are few role models to motivate the young women scientists and students. The Indian Academy of Sciences (IASc), Bangalore, made a laudable effort of bringing out 'Lilavati's Daughters: The Women Scientists of India', an eye-opening collection of essays of about nearly 100 Indian women scientists from the Victorian era to present-day India, giving an inspiring account of what brought them to science and what kept them going despite the exorbitant social and personal problems along the way.
