Halima Aden

Brief Profile

Halima Aden is a Somali-American fashion model and activist known for breaking barriers in the fashion industry as one of the first hijab-wearing supermodels. Born in 1997 in a refugee camp in Kenya, she later moved to the United States with her family.

Halima gained global attention in 2016 when she became the first contestant to wear a hijab and burkini in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant. She later signed with IMG Models, working with major brands like Vogue, Sports Illustrated, and Rihanna's Fenty.

As an activist, she serves as a UNICEF Ambassador, advocating for refugee rights, girls' education, and diversity in fashion. In 2020, she stepped away from high-fashion modeling, citing concerns about maintaining her religious and personal values.

Halima continues to inspire and empower young women globally through her advocacy and representation.
